At Recovery First, we’re a specialist accountancy service with over 14 years of experience supporting law firms through change. From the outset, our focus has been on providing clear, practical, and compliant financial support to solicitors who need expert guidance at critical points in their firm’s lifecycle.

Who do you work with?

While we originally worked predominantly with firms in the personal injury sector, our role has expanded significantly over time. Today, we work with all types of solicitors’ firms, across every practice area. The legal market has evolved, and so have we. Our experience now reflects the full breadth of the profession, allowing us to support firms regardless of size, structure, or specialism.

How can you help?

Much of our work involves helping law firms step back from the legal market in a controlled and compliant way. This might include firm closures, mergers, restructures, or strategic exits. We understand that leaving the market is rarely a simple decision, and the process itself can feel daunting. Our role is to take the pressure off by handling the complex financial and regulatory aspects with care and precision.

We are acutely aware of the responsibilities solicitors carry, particularly when it comes to client accounts and regulatory compliance. Managing residual balances, ensuring accurate reporting, and meeting ongoing obligations requires specialist knowledge. We work closely with firms to make sure nothing is overlooked, helping to minimise risk and bring clarity to what can otherwise be an overwhelming process.

Do you only help distressed firms?

Importantly, the firms we work with are not always in difficulty. Many are making proactive, well-considered decisions about their future. Retirement, changes in personal circumstances, shifts in the legal landscape, or a desire to pursue new opportunities can all lead firms to step away from practice, or an area of it. Whatever the reason, we approach every engagement with the same level of professionalism, discretion, and respect.
